Scottsdale is situated in Maricopa County near the Greater Phoenix Area. The Community name, Scottsdale comes from its founders, Winfield and George Washington Scott. It is 31 miles long and 11 miles wide. The main religion practised there is Christianity including Catholics and Protestant but has, in recent years, welcomed people of other faiths including Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. It has 200 excellent, luxurious golf courses. It has 4 and 5 star accommodation including the Four Seasons resort, the Camelback Inn with its own golf course, Sanctuary at Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa, Spain’s Andalusia’s, Omni Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Montelucia and Royal Palms Resort and Spa.
There are around 125 art galleries in Scottsdale, the majority holding extensive collections of native American and western themed art. There are a lot of shopping centres and malls in Scottsdale including the Scottsdale Fashion Square which is approximately 2 million square feet and features many high-end retailers including Macy’s Tiffany and Co. and Jimmy Choo as well as as more affordable brands such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Forever 21. Downtown Scottsdale has a bustling nightlife with plenty of nightclubs and restaurants and attracts a lot of young adults. Every New Year’s Eve it hosts Scottsdale's Ultimate Block Party.
The City of Scottsdale is adjacent to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community who run very successful casinos such as Casino Arizona which has been going strong since 1998. There are 80 schools in Scottsdale, served by the Scottsdale Unified School District and the Paradise Valley Unified School District. Scottsdale has great transport links, being on the route of the State Route 101 and has easy access to the rest of Az and beyond. It also has its own airport – Scottsdale Municipal Airport.
